Little Salad Bar Farmhouse Potato Salad + Steakhouse Potato Salad

Potato salad is popular among my family. At least one person is likely to order it if it’s offered as a side dish to a sandwich or burger when we go out to eat. When I buy a tub of potato salad at the grocery store, it doesn’t last long in the refrigerator. That combination of diced or sliced potatoes with creamy mayo, mustard, and seasonings seems to hit the spot. Add in some hard-cooked eggs or some pickle relish and you have a winning dish to serve alongside a deli sandwich.

Aldi does not sell potato salad year round, much to our disappointment. However, the discount grocer does sell several types of potato salad during the spring and summer cookout season. Aldi offers a standard large tub of original potato salad that is our go-to option when I want to buy potato salad. They also sometimes sell some specialty potato salads such as loaded potato salad or deviled egg potato salad.

I found some new potato salad choices during my most recent Aldi run: Farmhouse Potato Salad and Steakhouse Potato Salad.

Little Salad Bar Farmhouse Potato Salad and Little Salad Bar Steakhouse Potato Salad each cost $3.29 at the time of publication for a 16-ounce container.

These appear to be Aldi Finds, so they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.

This features “cooked potatoes and eggs with sweet salad dressing.” This is true to its description and is a very sweet potato salad with 8 grams of added sugar per serving. This has noticeable small bits of hard-boiled egg — always a favorite of mine in any potato salad — and it has a bit of diced green onion. It’s a good potato salad, if a bit sugary. The sweetness is especially noticeable if you eat this alongside the Steakhouse Potato Salad, which has no added sugars.

This is my favorite of the two potato salads here. It features “cooked potatoes with sour cream, smoked bacon and seasonings.” The sour cream flavor is definitely there, and if you like sour cream you’ll like this. It has a rich, lightly smoky flavor that blends well with the sour cream. The only thing that’s lacking is some hard-cooked egg to make it perfect. You could always add your own egg, though.

The Verdict:

Little Salad Bar Farmhouse Potato Salad and Little Salad Bar Steakhouse Potato Salad are both good options if you’re looking for a ready-to-eat potato salad. The Farmhouse Potato Salad is a sweet salad with hard-boiled eggs, while the Steakhouse Potato Salad has sour cream and smoked bacon. We like them both, although some of our taste testers are more partial to the Steakhouse version.
