Crofton Two Burner Griddle

Back in 2018, I found and purchased a Crofton Two Burner Griddle. I was intrigued by all that cooking space, which looked to be more than you’d get from two griddles side by side. Sure, there were limitations, like less heat between the burners in the middle, but the potential of that surface area looked compelling.
The griddle served us well. We cooked everything on it from bacon to gyro strips to grilled cheese sandwiches. It was a marvelous surface for pancakes, one of my favorite things to whip up on the griddle. Anything a standard griddle could do, the two burner model could do with more room.
All things come to an end, and after years of use we decided it was time to retire the venerable griddle. Serendipitously, Aldi just happened to be selling the latest version as a limited buy.
The Crofton Two Burner Griddle (Product Code: 814763) is an Aldi Find. Each store gets one shipment, and once that shipment is sold out, you won’t be able to get it again until it comes back, whenever that is. Since Aldi doesn’t ship products online, if you can’t find it in stores, you’re out of luck for now.
At the time of this post, the griddle goes for $14.99. While that’s $5 more than what we paid in 2018, it’s less than most, if not all, griddles that I can find online.
It comes both in a black or black speckled version. We chose the speckled one, just as we did years ago.
According to Aldi, features include:
- Spans two burners to cook family-size meals
- Dimensions: 17.7″ x 10.2″ (45.5 x 26.2 cm)
- Heavy gauge aluminum construction for even heat distribution
- Xylan Plus nonstick coating for easy food release and cleanup
- Oven safe up to 320°F
- Compatible for use on glass ceramic, electric, halogen and gas stovetops
- Comes with a 2-year warranty
Most of these specs remain unchanged over the years. The dimensions haven’t changed, nor has the use of Xylan Plus, the brand name used by the Whitford Company for polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). (Teflon is another formulation of PFFE.) The build quality feels the same, with a similar weight and thickness. The two-year warranty is another holdover, this time from Protel, a common Aldi warranty provider.
One change we did see is a small dip in the lip of one corner. We’re guessing it is designed to make it easier to drain grease from the griddle.
I’m pleased to report that this griddle performs on par with the last one, which is to say it works well. It heats up evenly above the burners and things cook the way we would expect them to. The middle of the griddle between burners doesn’t get as hot, of course, but it does heat up enough to help out with the cooking.
The Verdict:
Aldi appears to have a good thing going with its Crofton Two Burner Griddle. We bought one in 2018 and got several good years out of it, and this year’s model appears to be on the same track. It is a great size for a typical stovetop, feels solid, heats up evenly on the sides and decently in between, and even sports a small dip for grease drainage. Given how our previous one held up, we expect to get years out of this one, but it’s nice to have a warranty just the same. If you need a two burner griddle, we’d say this one is definitely worth considering.
