EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2023.

I enjoy camping. It’s really nice to get away from the noise and busyness of the city, and out to nature where there are no alarm clocks, no traffic, and no deadlines. It’s just good for my soul.

When you think of camping, you think of certain basic necessities: a tent, a soft sleeping surface, and a sleeping bag. But there are a number of other small accessories that make the experience better. A cooler, for example. Cooking utensils. A place to clean those utensils.

I also like to bring a gas-powered cooking device. To be sure, I do use a cooking fire — either wood or maybe charcoal — for some things. The gas-powered device can be useful, though, since it heats up faster and more evenly, and it may be more appropriate for certain kinds of food. In the past, I’ve used both portable grills as well as portable camp stoves.

Gas griddles are nifty because they have their own cooking surface — a camp stove with built-in cookware, if you will. They also can cook some of the things a portable grill can (minus the sear marks). If you need a one-stop solution for camping or tailgating, a portable gas griddle might be something to put on your radar.

Aldi sells plenty of camping accessories in the summer, and a gas griddle is one of them.

What We Know:

Range Master 17 Portable Tabletop Gas Griddle

The Range Master 17″ Portable Tabletop Gas Griddle (Product Code: 703855) is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Once it’s gone, it’s gone, most likely until next year, if at all. As best as we can tell, the year of this post (2021) is the first year Aldi has sold this particular item.

In 2023, this griddle cost $69.99. That’s less than when Aldi sold it in 2022 for $79.99 and reflects a return to its original price of $69.99 that it went for in 2021. This is another example of Aldi quietly lowering prices on certain Aldi Finds. That’s lower than any other gas griddle I was able to find, even ones that are the same size as this one. Griddles do range in size, and 17 inches is probably on the smaller side of sizes, with big ones running upwards of 25 inches. That’s a negative if you need a large cooking surface for a big crowd, but it’s a positive if portability is important.

The grill is made by the GHP Group, which also makes the Dyna-Glo line of grills. GHP Group backs the warranty, which is good for two years on the entire griddle, and five years on the burner.

According to Aldi, the grill is “great for camping or tailgating: cook eggs, burgers, hot dogs, steaks and more!” In 2023, it measures 26.77″ x 17.5″ x 8.54″, while in 2021 it measured 25.78″ x 18.5″ x 8.54″.

It includes the following features:

  • A 260 sq. in. cooking area
  • A pre-seasoned steel griddle top
  • 18,000 BTUS of cooking power
  • A reliable push and turn ignition
  • Effortless cleanup
  • Quick heat up
  • Versatile portability

The griddle uses standard one-pound propane canisters, which are not sold by Aldi and are not included, but they can be easily found at many stores.

The 2023 model comes with a two-year warranty.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t tested this product, so we can’t speak to how well it works or how easily it cleans up. We write open thread posts like this to offer a place for people to share about their experiences with a product.

  1. I just got the rangemaster 17 inch griddle as an early father’s day gift so far I am overall impressed it’s very sturdy and seems well made obviously time tells all tales but so far I love it.

  2. We just bought this griddle yesterday, it seems sturdy and durable. It’s going to be a nice add on for our camper.

  3. After hearing our glamping friends fawn all over their Blackstone, we decided to make a point to walk down the #AisleOfShame to pick this up. We were not disappointed to add this to our camping cooking gadgets. Support the device with felt pads as camp sites are not perfectly even. Clean up with steel wool. It has a drip tray as well. We were able to cook dinner and breakfast for our family of 5 with ease. It cooked the food evenly. Very pleased we bought it.

  4. Can i add an adapter and regulator to connect a 20# tank?

  5. Can I add an adapter for my quick connect to trailer connection

Yes, Amazon has them… I didn’t buy that style hose because I want my grill more portable than that. I also use it at home.. I got the hose that lets me use a 20 pound tank. I may in the future spring for the Quick connector too.

    • No, that line is regulated. You need to modify your camper propane system just buy the cylinders.

  6. Does Range Master make a separate stand we can purchase? It would be nice to have this option so we won’t have to use the picnic table for cooking.

There are generic tables available.. I got one by Char Griller at Menards that fit my wants, perfectly, it folds up nice and compact

  7. How does it clean up? Can you use scrapers or does it scratch?

  8. Got one today I had a breakfast for about 30 kids at church and didn’t want to carry my big one did a great job bacon, eggs and pancakes

  9. Do they make a lid or cover for it

  10. I went to Aldi’s yesterday and they still had these grills for $69. They weren’t selling as fast. I went again today and they marked it down $48. Jumped on it fast. Will test it out this weekend. Thanks for your review.

People want the BlackStone name to show off… I prefer to save a few dollars whenever, where ever I can.. I love this Griddle… It is definitely a quality unit…. I took it to a Birthday party at my Sis-n-law’s People were watching me tossing ribs on the BBQ grill, and flipping Sliders, Dogs and Brats on the Range Master at the same time,,

  11. After using it occasionally at home for a few weeks now and very regularly over the course of a week long camping trip I would recommend this product to others if Aldi brings it back again. I’ve used Blackstone’s own product to keep it seasoned and have used it in every way, including cleaning, according to directions for a Blackstone and the Range Master has broken in very nicely. I have been searching for an RV quick connect option that another commenter asks about. Since there doesn’t seem to be an industry standard (i.e. Blackstone adapter won’t fit Coleman, some Colemans wont fit others, etc…) I’m not sure if I’ll find anything. None the less, it works fine as is.

I bought a hose on Amazon that connects the existing Griddle pressure regulator to a 20 pound tank.. It attaches in place of the one pound bottle… Works great.. I agree with your finding about the brass adapter on the side.. I haven’t found one online that gives a close enough look to compare with the Range Master connector..

  12. My rv has a built in regulator. Is there an attachment for the griddle that bypasses the regulator on the griddle? We go through a canister every meal we cook. Gets expensive. It cooks great.

  13. I got mine clearance priced for 40 bucks. There were two left and I wish I would’ve taken both of them. It’s a great griddle. I also drilled and tapped holes in the legs and used 1/4-28 bolts and rubber bumpers for leveling legs.

  14. For the Fourth of July to cook out for my family I loved it except for the front doesn’t seem to get his hot that’s okay cuz you can always put the food you want to keep warm towards that other than that I would still like to know to like someone else asked if there’s a cover for it cuz that would make it just a little bit easier to put it away every time I use it
