Open Thread: Visage Hair Straightening Brush

Last Updated on July 29, 2022

EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold this again for $16.99 in October of 2021 and for $18.99 in August of 2022.

In the late summer, Aldi begins to roll out back-to-school accessories such as flash cards, workbooks, backpacks, lunch bags, snack bags, and even desk lamps.

In addition to these essentials, the retailer also offers a few products to help students look their best and practice good hygiene as they start the new academic year, including haircut kits (in higher demand than usual this year), hairbrushes, and power toothbrushes.

One recent back-to-school offering at Aldi is the Visage Hair Straightening Brush.

Visage Hair Straightening Brush

What We Know:

The Visage Hair Straightening Brush sold for $16.99 in August of 2020. That’s less than half the price of most hair straightening brushes sold on Amazon.

Aldi also sold a hair straightening brush for $14.99 in 2019 and 2018, and the grocer sold one for $19.99 in 2017.

Features for the 2020 Visage Hair Straightening Brush (product code 800933) include:

  • An LED screen that displays temperature
  • A ceramic-coated heat plate
  • A pro style hair straightening brush
  • A 360° cable hinge and hanging loop
  • A three-year warranty

We don’t yet know who provides warranty service for the 2020 hair straightening brush, but the 2019 model was serviced by the German company Protel Service.

What We Don’t Know:

We write open thread posts about products we have not yet tried ourselves, so we haven’t actually gotten our hands on one of these brushes to see how well it works.

  1. After reading this, I ran to Aldi and bought it, with high hopes. Unfortunately, the placement of the power and more importantly, the temperature up (+) and down (-) buttons, makes it impossible to hold and use without the temperature constantly changing…very poorly designed, and I will be returning.

  2. Bought one of these. Plugged it in and followed instructions, but unit just keeps switching off at 54C. Looks very tinny around the switches and temp display. Must have tried over 20 times, but just turns itself off at 54C. Will be returning today. Waste of my time and petrol, going back and forth to return the unit.

  3. Mine also turning off at 54c?? Thought I was going mad – will also be returning it!

  4. It won’t turn on

  5. I tried today and I have the same experience the controls is switching and go on and off

  6. I had the same issue with the button placement but I really liked it regardless. I used it more than my straightener. I purchased this product in October and while using it this morning there was a large pop sound and a burst of purple flame and when I inspected it closer a part of the cord for this product had like exploded… I don’t know the proper term but it had just burst. Right by the handle as well. Luckily it didn’t get my hand. I’m very disappointed because I genuinely loved this item.

  7. Agree with the comments on bad control button placement on the handle. If I remind myself to choke way up on the handle and grip near the base, it helps. Takes a while to heat up, especially to the 410F heat I prefer. I find the quickest is to first let it get to the default setting (355F), and then dial in my final preferred temp. Have been using for a few months and really like it. Hope it lasts!

    • Update – Have been using this for about a year, and it’s still going strong. Looks like the 2022 model has addressed the bad placement of control buttons, although in the ad photos I can only see one button, with a power on/off logo. Maybe this also can adjust temperature?

      • Update – I got a year and a half out of it before sparks flew from the outlet. Luckily I kept box and receipt, so I’ll be returning it under warranty. Too bad, I liked it while it lasted

  8. Bought this straightener in fall of 2021. Use regularly and loved it but yesterday I turned it on and when I went to straighten my hair a huge spark/flame shot out of it, it started smoking and I heard a loud POP. Dropped it immediately and luckily it didn’t injure me or burn my hair that I can tell. Buyers beware!!!!
