Trader Joe’s Herbaceous Cheesy Bites

Cheese is always a popular snack or side dish in my household. We love cheese cubes, cheese sticks, cheese dips. All of it.

During a recent trip to Trader Joe’s, which is a cousin to Aldi, I found some frozen breaded cheese bites that looked to interesting to pass up. These looked a bit like breaded mozzarella sticks, which my family loves, so I picked up a box to try. The package states these are “made with mozzarella, parmesan, cream cheese and a blend of garlic and herbs.”

We buy products for review using our own money. I paid $4.99 for a 7.2-ounce package of Trader Joe’s Herbaceous Cheesy Bites in 2026. That comes out to about 69 cents per ounce. One box has about 2.5 servings, which is around $2 per serving.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain milk, soy, and wheat. They may contain egg.

These do have a lot of total fat and saturated fat. One serving is about five bites. That will net you 320 calories, 26 grams of total fat (33% DV), 14 grams of saturated fat (70% DV), 410 mg of sodium (18% DV), 14 grams of total carbs (5% DV), no dietary fiber, 2 grams of total sugars, no added sugars, and 8 grams of protein.

The box has directions for baking these from frozen in a conventional oven. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Remove all packaging and place the cheesy bites on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees and bites are lightly browned. Allow to sit for 2 minutes before serving.

The cheese inside these bites is very soft, which makes sense considering that cream cheese is the first ingredient listed. The filling’s consistency almost reminds me of ricotta cheese, although that’s not an ingredient. The breading is lightly crispy and toasty, and there’s not too much of it.

Breaded mozzarella sticks are still our favorite, but these were worth trying.

The Verdict:

Trader Joe’s Herbaceous Cheesy Bites feature mozzarella, parmesan, and cream cheese with herbs such as chives, basil, garlic, black pepper, parsley, and dill. The breading is crisp, while the filling is very soft. If you’re a cheese afficionado, you might want to give these a try.
