Last Updated on December 7, 2020
Aldi’s popular wine Advent calendar along with the cheese Advent calendar, both of which were first introduced in 2018, will be back. The beer Advent calendar introduced in 2019 will also be back for the 2020 holiday season.
Other familiar offerings showing up again this year include a variety of chocolate calendars, a dog treat calendar, and several toy and storybook calendars. A Countdown to the New Year Sparkling Wine is also back this year.
New calendars for 2020 include a hard seltzer calendar, a coffee calendar, a cat treat calendar, and a craft beer calendar. Also new is an Advent calendar candle.
In addition, Aldi will be selling some other countdown calendars that are not traditional Advent calendars, including some 12 days of Christmas countdowns featuring chocolate or alcohol, and a wine countdown box with one small bottle for each day during the week leading to the New Year.
Remember that all of these calendars are available only for a limited time. Supplies are limited, and they will not be restocked, and some of these calendar varieties sell fast. Aldi also states on its website that the calendars are not available via Instacart and cannot be purchased online; you have to visit a store to purchase one.
Be sure to come back later for updates as Aldi releases more photos and details about what’s in some of the calendars (including more specific information about the contents of the wine, cheese, beer, and coffee calendars).
This year’s calendars include:
The 2020 Collection Wine Advent Calendar
This costs $69.99, the same as in 2019 and 2018. It features twenty-four 187-mL bottles of wine from around the world. There will be a limit of two wine calendars per customer. Aldi instituted a ticket system in 2019 that seemed to work well, and we assume Aldi will use that system again in 2020. If you want to score one of these, we still advise you to get to your store first thing in the morning, as they tend to go quickly.
Keep in mind that not all Aldi stores sell alcohol because of state and local laws. Aldi notes which stores don’t sell beer and / or wine in its store locator.
Beer Advent Calendar
This is the second year for the beer Advent calendar, which again will sell for $49.99. We expect this calendar to be popular once more, and there is a limit of two beer calendars per customer. It contains twenty-four 11.2-oz. bottles. You can read our review of last year’s beer calendar here.
Vista Bay Hard Seltzer Advent Calendar
This is a new alcohol-based Advent calendar at Aldi this year. It will sell for $34.99 and contains twenty-four 8.5-oz. cans. There is a limit of two seltzer calendars per customer.
Emporium Selection Cheese Advent Calendar
This is back again for the third year. It features 24 pieces of cheese, some of which repeat through the season. You can read our review of last year’s cheese calendar here.
Pure Being Premium Cat Advent Calendar or Pure Being Premium Dog Advent Calendar
Aldi sold a dog treat Advent calendar in 2019. They’re bringing the dog treat calendar back in 2020, along with the addition of a calendar for cats. Both calendars sell for $5.89. These treats are grain free with limited ingredients, oven baked, and claim to be rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Read our review of the cat calendar here.
Huntington Home Advent Calendar Candle
These Advent Calendar Candles are new to Aldi in 2020 and cost $4.99 each. The candles have a calendar image on the front, and you mark a tiny “x” over each number as the days pass, starting with December 1. Scents include Peppermint Bark, Spice Cake, and Spice Currant. Read our review here.
Disney or Marvel Storybook Advent Calendars
Aldi sold one storybook Advent calendar in 2019, with a small book for each day. They’re selling three different storybook calendars in 2020, all for $9.99 each:
- a Disney Storybook Collection Advent Calendar that includes Toy Story, Wreck-It Ralph, Pinocchio, and more.
- a Disney Frozen Storybook Advent Calendar
- a Marvel Advent Calendar
Mattel and Hot Wheels Toy Advent Calendars
These come in a few varieties at different price points.
For $16.99, you can purchase:
- a Hot Wheels Advent calendar
- a Cars movie-themed calendar
For $19.99, you can purchase:
- a Spin Master Paw Patrol Advent Calendar
Or, for $24.99, you can buy:
- a Mattel Barbie calendar (also sold in 2019) that features a doll with a new piece of clothing or an accessory for each day
- a Mattel Little People calendar with a new person or accessory each day
Chocolate Advent Calendars
As is usually the case, Aldi sells several types of chocolate Advent calendars at different prices.
The cheapest is the Choceur Advent Calendar for $1.39 (we remember when this used to cost just 99 cents a few years ago), which has a basic piece of milk chocolate in a holiday shape for each day. This is our family’s go-to Advent calendar because it’s inexpensive and always a favorite with the kids.
The mid-priced option is the Choceur Premium Advent Calendar for $4.99, and on the upper end is the Moser Roth Advent Calendar with Assorted Chocolates and Truffles for $7.99.
Barissimo Coffee Advent Calendar
Aldi has never before sold a coffee Advent calendar, so we’re intrigued. This calendar will sell for $9.99 and includes 24 cups.
Moser Roth 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar
This is not a traditional 24-day Advent calendar but rather a 12-day chocolate calendar. This costs $4.99 and hits stores November 25th, 2020.
This contains 12 holiday crafts behind 12 doors. Crafts include ornaments, puzzles, painting, and more. This costs $12.99.
O’Donnells 12 Days of Irish Country Cream Calendar
This costs $29.99 and hits stores November 25th, 2020.
Countdown New Year Sparkling Wine
This was promoted with Aldi’s Advent calendars, but it is not an Advent calendar. Rather, it is a box of seven assorted sparkling wines, one for each day between Christmas and the New Year. This costs $24.99 and hits stores December 2, 2020.
