Heart to Tail Cat Laser

EDITOR’S NOTE: We bought and reviewed this in 2024. Aldi is selling what look to be identical cat lasers in various colors in October of 2025 for the same price of $9.99. See our update at the end of this post about our thoughts on the cat laser after using it for some time.

Having owned cats all my life, I’m pretty familiar with a lot of cat products, from food to litter to beds to toys. For years, I’ve used handheld laser pointers to entice my cats to play, exercise, and burn off energy.

Then, I spotted Aldi selling a cat laser of a different type. Instead of a handheld pointer, this device sits on the floor and looks like a cat sitting upright. The laser light comes from the cat figure’s head and projects onto the floor nearby for your cat to chase.

Heart to Tail Cat Laser

A cat laser that requires little to no work on my part? I was definitely interested, so I picked one up this week for our new Aldi Reviewer Cat.*

The Heart to Tail Cat Laser (Product Code: 707577) is an Aldi Find. That means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are sold out at your local store.

We buy Aldi products for review using our own funds, and I paid $9.99 for the cat laser in the fall of 2024. That’s considerably less than what similar automatic cat lasers sell for online.

Because this includes a laser pointer, the box has some safety warnings. The cat laser should be kept out of reach of children. Pets should be supervised when using this product. Do not shine the laser directly in the eyes of a person or a pet, or through a reflection. This can cause harm to eyes.

Unboxing and Setting Up the Cat Laser:

What comes inside the box: a user manual, and the cat laser itself.

When you open the box, you’ll find the cat laser device itself, plus a short user manual.

Before using the cat laser, you’ll need to install three AA batteries. You’ll need a screwdriver to remove the battery cover under the base. Once the batteries are in and the cover is reinstalled, your cat is ready to play.

The device has three speed modes: slow, fast, and random. For the slow setting, press the button on the base once. For the fast setting, press the button twice. For the random setting, press the button three times. In all settings, the cat laser will automatically turn off after 15 minutes of operation. If you want to turn it off before 15 minutes have passed, simply press the button on the base until you’ve cycled through all the settings, and it will turn off.

A closer look at the cat laser. The laser light is located in the head and points out at a downward angle. The single control button on the bottom functions as an on/off button and lets you select the laser’s speed.

The user manual also has some safety precautions: don’t immerse the laser in water. Don’t store it near a heat source or in prolonged direct sunlight. Don’t subject it to freezing temperatures or extreme humidity. Also, inspect the cat laser regularly and don’t use it if it’s damaged, malfunctioning, or has loose or detached parts that could pose choking hazards to pets.

The manual also says children under 8 should not use the cat laser. Persons younger than 18 should be supervised by an adult.

The cat laser does not come with a warranty, but the manual also lists contact information for customer support. For assistance with the product, call 1-844-470-7970 or email support@productconcern.com.

What the Aldi Reviewer Cat Thinks of the Cat Laser:

Heart to Tail Cat Laser
The Aldi Reviewer Cat spying on the cat laser.

We set the cat laser on the floor and turned it to the slow speed setting to start with. The Aldi Reviewer Cat was curious, but mostly about the motions and noise coming from the moving head on the cat figure. It’s not terribly loud, but it makes enough noise that it distracts from the laser light moving on the floor.

Eventually, the Aldi Reviewer Cat briefly noticed and almost seemed ready to pounce on the light on the floor, but then she lost interest. Some family members pointed out — rightly — that the laser moves fast even on the slow setting. When we play with handheld laser pointers with cats, we often move them slowly to help draw out their curiosity and hunting instincts.

We placed the cat laser in some different places to see if that had any affect on our cat’s interest level. When we set it on the floor in our sunroom on a bright afternoon, we noticed the light became harder to see. We’ve used other laser pointers for cats that show up fine in our sunroom on sunny days. So, it appears the light on this Aldi cat laser is not the brightest.

The Aldi Reviewer Cat is more interested in sitting in an Aldi box than playing with the cat laser.

The Aldi Reviewer Cat is not interested in this product for now. We’ll keep trying to interest her in it, but if we aren’t successful, we’re not sure we’ll keep this cat laser.

Of course, cats are all unique creatures, and your mileage may vary.

The Verdict:

The Heart to Tail Cat Laser features a cat-shaped figure with a laser light in its head. The light points downward at an angle and moves automatically, giving cats a small red light to chase. It has 3 speed settings: slow, fast, and random. It automatically turns off after 15 minutes.

We tried this out with our resident Aldi Reviewer Cat, who enjoys playing with handheld cat lasers. She was more curious about the quiet noise coming from the rotating cat figure’s head. The laser light moves quite fast even on the slowest setting, and we think it might be too fast for our cat’s liking. We also noticed the light is not as bright compared to other cat laser pointers we’ve used. Overall, this just didn’t do it for our cat.

We could see this possibly being good for kittens or younger cats, or just different cats in general. It can be hard to predict what any specific cat will like. This is cheap enough that it could be worth trying with your cat. Just know that your mileage may vary.

UPDATE (10/2/2025) — Our cat never expressed much interest in this laser, so after a few days spent trying to entice her to play with it, we returned it to Aldi.

  1. We have the previous taller version. One cat ignores it after one paw move, the other, who also loves to chase watch crystal sun reflections, chases the light for a couple minutes, and then wanders off. More fun for us to watch than they are to indulge in.

    1. I ended up returning it to Aldi this morning. Too bad, since our cat likes handheld laser pointers. Sometimes you can never tell what cats will go for.

  2. I have last year’s version of this with a plain round top. My cat doesn’t really interact with the laser dot, but he will sit down and follow it with his eyes as it moves in circles. It’s perfect for when he’s being annoying and underfoot and I have to get something done, because I can turn it on and it distracts him entirely and leaves me free. For that alone, it was worth the money.

  3. Our 3 cast and my daughter’s cat absolutely love this laser toy. I need to find another one because my daughter’s cat laser broke so she is wanting one of mine, but my cats love them so I’m not willing to give her one…I only have 2. Where can I find one to buy?

    1. They were a limited-time special at Aldi, and if they’re not currently in stock at your local store, you’re unfortunately out of luck. Aldi might bring them back at some time, but we don’t know if or when.

  4. I purchased recently, installed batteries, the head spins but no laser light emitting from head :(. Is there a trick to this?
