Kirkwood Crispy Chicken Nuggets

I usually keep a package or two of chicken nuggets in the freezer for easy, fast meals. Aldi sells a few options when it comes to nuggets and other types of breaded chicken.

One option that I don’t recall seeing until more recently is a bag of crispy chicken nuggets. Not just regular nuggets. Crispy nuggets. I was intrigued, so I picked up a package to try.

Kirkwood Crispy Chicken Nuggets are a Regular Buy. That means you should be able to find them at Aldi all year. They’re stocked in the Regular Buy freezer case among the other breaded chicken products.

I paid $6.99 for a 22-ounce package in 2026. That’s around 32 cents per ounce. There are about eight servings per package, which comes out to about 87 cents per serving.

These are made with white meat chicken. The package states they are “fully cooked breaded crispy chicken breast with rib meat nuggets.”

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain wheat and milk.

A 3-ounce serving has 160 calories, 8 grams of total fat (10% DV), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (7% DV), 700 mg of sodium (31% DV), 13 grams of total carbohydrates (5% DV), no dietary fiber, 3 grams of total sugars, 2 grams of added sugars (5% DV), and 14 grams of protein.

Heating Instructions:

These can be heated from frozen in a conventional oven (the package says this is the preferred method), air fryer, or microwave.

To heat in the oven, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place frozen chicken nuggets in a single layer on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 23-25 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees. Remove the nuggets from the baking sheet and let them stand for 1-2 minutes before serving.

To air fry, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees. Place frozen chicken nuggets into the air fryer basket, spread evenly. Air fry for 15-17 minutes or until internal temperature is 165 degrees. Remove nuggets from the air fryer and let them stand for 1-2 minutes before serving.

To microwave, place frozen chicken nuggets in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes or until internal temperature is 165 degrees. Remove the plate from the microwave and let it stand for 1-2 minutes before serving.

Our Thoughts:

I chose to air fry these. They do take a little longer than some other types of chicken nuggets I’ve air fried. They cook at a slightly lower temperature, and they have a somewhat thicker breading, which all contributes to a longer cook time. I air fried these for around 12-13 minutes, which is slightly less than the package directions indicate. You’ll want to keep an eye on these to make sure they don’t overcook.

These come out nice and crispy, as advertised. They aren’t shaped like your usual chicken nuggets. They’re less uniform in shape and size, and they almost remind me of popcorn chicken but a bit larger.

The chicken is tender and savory. The breading is noticeably sweet, and there are 2 grams of added sugars in these nuggets. I liked these fine, but the sweet flavor isn’t my favorite in a chicken nugget. For that reason, I probably won’t buy these on a regular basis.

The Verdict:

Kirkwood Crispy Chicken Nuggets have a shape more similar to popcorn chicken than chicken nuggets. They cook up crispy and flavorful. They are a bit sweet, so they may not be for everyone.
