EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2023.

You may not necessarily think of Aldi when you need tools, but sometimes the discount grocer actually sells products you might find at a hardware store.

Aldi sometimes sell tools under its Ferrex brand, which is not a company but rather is the private label Aldi uses for tools, lawn equipment, wet/dry vacuums, and more. Ferrex products we’ve seen at Aldi over the years include a cordless screwdriver, a cordless lawn mower, a cordless blower, a pressure washer, and assorted tools.

Recently, Aldi offered a cordless rotary tool kit with a variety of accessories.

What We Know:

Ferrex 12V Cordless Rotary Tool Kit
The 2022 kit.

The Ferrex 12V Cordless Rotary Tool Kit (Product Code: 818417 in 2022; Product Code: 826067 in 2023) cost $19.99 in December of 2023, which is $5 less than the $24.99 it cost in December of 2022. That’s also on the lower range of prices for cordless rotary tool kits on Amazon.

This kit is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, these are gone unless Aldi decides to bring them back at some point. Aldi doesn’t offer online ordering for products not in stock at your local store.

Here’s more information on the cordless rotary tool kit, according to Aldi:

  • Features six adjustable speed settings from 5,000 to 25,000 rpm
  • Comes in a useful storage box
  • Includes 75 accessories: 6 HSS drill bits, 2 mandrels as tool holders, 3 polishing discs, 4 grinding discs, 1 metal brush, 16 cutting discs, 5 collet chucks, 2 synthetic brushes, 3 milling bits, 2 engraving bits, 5 grinding bits, 1 combination spanner, and 25 circular sanding discs

Previous versions of this tool kit have come with a three-year warranty serviced by Positec Tool Corporation. Positec is headquartered in Suzhou, China, with North American division headquarters in North Carolina. Positec also produces Rockwell Tools and WORX brands that are sold at retailers including Lowe’s, Home Depot, Costco, and Walmart.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t yet used this tool kit, so we don’t know how well it works or how it holds up. We write open threads to give readers an opportunity to talk about Aldi products.

  1. Since a rotary tool/ Dremel is not intended for long term use it is a great little tool to have around for the small jobs at a good price. Battery lasts a good while, but not for extended use. Doesn’t get hot in the hands while using and not very noisy. Comparable to other rotary tools and can use other brand bits if yours wear out. Well worth the purchase if you can find one.

    1. Yep love mine, easy to hold and no, doesn’t get hot.
I’ve shattered the small cutting disc that just snapped in half, very thin, fine disc.
Probably my fault trying to cut thru some trigs for a art project.
Off to Bunnings to see if I can find another brand of disc that will fit.
Dremel probably but they tend to be pricey. We will see.
I’ve got at least 8 Aldi power tools, fantastic, love em all. Great buys!

  2. Scheppach GMBH is the manufacturer in this case. The warranty info and the battery are labeled as Scheppach and one contacts them as per the paper that comes witg it. It is made in China and has a 5 year warranty.
I’m quite happy with it although I do wish it was a tad quieter.

  3. After using this rotary tool off and on for a little over a year I can say that for a $20 price point this little tool is well worth the money. It handles small jobs with ease and the battery last for a good 20mins or so on max depending on how aggressively you’re using it. It’s no milwaukee but for the money you can’t go wrong!
    With that being said…..
After using the tool with a 1 1/4″ metal cut off wheel to try to cut a 2″id exhaust pipe in a hard to reach place, it has failed miserably!! I have drained the fully charged battery down twice and have yet to complete the cut before the tool started slowing down and smoking. I can assure you it DOES get hot in your hand when using it to cut metal. Going to contact schppach to see how their warranty process goes. Will update if it becomes a hassle.

  4. Can someone please identify the bits? I need to know which ones do I use for what. Can’t find this info in the user manuel. Help!
