The Ferrex Electric Chainsaw is Coming Back to Aldi

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2024.

It’s fall at Aldi, which means it’s a time when we’re likely to see some tools, gear for getting the yard work done, and even some home improvement products.

The discount grocer recently dropped a cordless pole saw into its middle aisle. The latest weekly ad showcases foldable workbenches, multipurpose dollies, weatherstripping and door draft sealers, motion-sensing battery-operated lights, and even surround heaters.

There’s a well-known meme about a person going into Aldi and coming out with random products, including a chainsaw. True to form, an electric chainsaw is among the home improvement gear in the weekly ad.

What We Know:

Ferrex Electric Chainsaw
The 2023 model.

The Ferrex Electric Chainsaw (Product Code: 827505 in 2023; Product Code: 836372 in 2024) is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back again at some later time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not currently in stock at your local store.

This is scheduled to arrive in stores on October 2nd, 2024.

The chainsaw cost $39.99 in October of 2024. That’s $10 more than the $29.99 it sold for in October of 2023. It’s still a pretty good price compared to other electric chainsaws.

Here’s more information, according to Aldi:

  • 14″ bar and chain
  • 9 amps
  • Can cut 13″ diameter trees
  • Oregon bar and chain for wear resistance
  • Visible oil tank window
  • Metal bumper spikes for clean cutting
  • Rubber grip handle and chain brake feature for added safety
  • No tools needed for chain adjustment

Ferrex is not a company. Instead, it’s the private label Aldi uses for various tools and workshop gear such as rotary tool kits, wet/dry vacs, cordless screwdrivers, and even cordless lawn mowers.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t purchased this chainsaw, so we don’t know how well it works. Also, while previous chainsaw models came with a warranty, Aldi has not yet published information about whether this year’s chainsaw comes with a warranty. We write open threads to provide readers with a place to discuss Aldi products.

  1. I bought this chainsaw. It does not come with Bar and Chsin Oil, which is necessary to run it. I think it was defective and previously returned slightly used. It did not start. Nothing. No grunt or groan. Nothing. I will be returning it, and obviously can’t trade it in. Bummer. I bought the polesaw today. May return before opening depending on reviews.

  2. I purchased the saw on a whim. Shortly after, trees fell at my father’s house, and I called a company for a quote, but they took too long to respond. So, when I went home for Thanksgiving, I loaded up the saw and ensured extension cords were at his house.

1st, some people are breaking their saws because they are not buying the required Bar and Chain Oil (NOT THE 2 cycle oil)

2nd, I really can’t complain about something that only costs $39.99 and comes with a 5-year warranty.

Now, the use. I ended up cutting ten trees and then cutting them into logs and also cutting the branches to make them easier to move. For the first few trees, there were no problems. Because the trees were extremely wet/green and some were bending, the tension would cause the blade to get stuck.
This saw uses a screw lock system. The cover screws down onto the bar (the bar has a section where they have added a metal plate to the bar, and the metal plate has Nibs on it, and the cover locks around these nibs. Over time, one of the nibs broke, and this would cause the chain to come loose as the locking system would have less area to lock onto, and during use, the cover would come loose faster (the manual tells you to periodically tighten for best service).

I was determined I was not buying another saw or renting one, knowing this has a warranty. So, all I had to do was to set the chain back onto the sprocket while pulling the bar and chain and then tighten down the cover. This was still safe. The only downside was that you I had to do this quite frequently. But it worked and all trees were finished, cut up and moved.

When I got home, I scanned the receipt and emailed (after calling), and now I am waiting on replacement parts or unit replacement. They mentioned I could get my money back if I returned it, and I informed them that this saw fit the bill. I only will need it around my father’s house and with this being electric, I did not have to worry about having a gas-powered unit that would have to be back and forth in the shop because of lack of use and fuel turning bad.

I have no problems and I am happy I bought it and if I can get the pole saw, I’m snatching it up as well.

  3. This saw is just terrible! The cork-screw style chain tensioner chain never works right and comes loose in an instant after a few minutes of use, which can be very dangerous throwing the chain. Read the instructions multiple times and still not staying tight. Basically unusable, not recommended.

  4. I bought this saw in 2023. I have not been disappointed. At first I didn’t realize the brake was on and called. They told me about the brake and when I move it the saw ran. I love the chain tensioner, it works great. I don’t have to have the tool bag out to tighten the chain back up. I have used the saw so much that two years later I called to get the size or model number chain for replacement. They went as far as to tell me they will send me another chain. I am so happy with the purchase and should they come out again I will buy another one to have as a spare. I am interested in knowing if Ferrex sells a 16 inch saw. I would like have the longer length because I do have some larger trees to cut. Great saw I have told everyone about it over the years.

  5. I bought this chainsaw couldn’t be happier with its performance. I don’t have a problem with the bar tensioner. It cuts really well. Definitely worth a 30 bucks.

  6. how do we get a new battery and charging base for chain pole saw. Looked it up to see if there is any compatible ones but don’t seem quite fitting being that this brand is private through Aldi. Can you assist please
