Child-Sized Aldi Play Shopping Cart with “Quarter Slot” Rolls Back Into Aldi

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2026.

Aldi has had a cult fan following for years now. The discount grocery store is the subject of multiple social media fan groups, and all that fandom has also spurred the creation of a whole line of Aldi-branded products that customers scoop up whenever they hit the middle aisle. I’ve seen everything from Aldi-branded socks and hoodies and joggers and pajamas to Aldi-branded insulated cups and quarter holders and ugly Christmas sweaters and bags and beanie hats.

A few years ago, Aldi decided to get its youngest customers in on all the fandom fun as well. Aldi introduced a child-sized play Aldi grocery market complete with shelves, a cash register, and the Aldi logo prominently displayed. Around the same time, Aldi released some play Aldi market food sets that featured play food that looked just like all kinds of familiar Aldi brands, from Millville cereal to Cheese Club mac and cheese. They also sold Aldi-branded reusable child-sized shopping bags and wallets with play money to complete the play shopping experience.

But one iconic Aldi thing was missing from all these play sets: the unique Aldi shopping quart with a slot for a quarter deposit and a chain for hooking it up to other carts in the corral.

Aldi finally remedied that issue when it introduced a child-sized toy shopping cart in February of 2024. It was stamped with the Aldi logo, and it had a quarter-holding device and chain attached to the handle just like a real Aldi shopping cart.

For the third year in a row now, always in February, Aldi is bringing the cart back. It’s got a slightly different look in 2026, but it’s still got the Aldi logo and the iconic quarter slot.

What We Know:

ALDI Shopping Cart Toy

The Aldi Play Aldi Shopping Cart is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store should receive one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back at some later time. Aldi does not offer online ordering if this is sold out at your local store.

The Aldi Shopping Cart cost $14.99 in February of 2026. That’s the same price it cost in 2025 and 2024. That’s also less than most play shopping carts on Amazon, and you’re getting the Aldi logo.

It looks like the cart has a seat for a doll or favorite stuffed animal. Also, the “quarter” holder actually works on the cart handle. Readers have told us that with previous models, if you have multiple toy carts, you can hook them together just like the real carts.

Aldi is selling this shopping cart alongside some food/shopping sets that include plenty of Aldi-branded play food to complete the experience.

Here’s more information on the cart, according to Aldi:

  • 22.5″ tall
  • Realistic-looking shopping cart
  • Includes real working play lock, key, 2 play coins, and coin holder
  • Nested function, just like a real line
  • Approximate dimensions: 17″ x 12″ x 22.5″
  • For ages 2+

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t purchased this toy Aldi shopping cart, so we don’t know how sturdy it is. Also, while the ad photo shows play food in the cart, we’re not sure if it actually comes with those items or if they must be purchased separately. We write open threads like this one to provide readers with a place to talk about Aldi products.

  1. 1′ long x 10″ wide x 16″ tall.
Got 2 to see if they would hook together & they do.
However, would be hard for a young child to pull them back apart or take the play quarter back out.
Kind of flimsy, comparable to the cheaper shopping carts out there.
