If you have hardwood or vinyl plank flooring or other types of hard floors, area rugs can be an important component in your home. They can anchor furniture arrangements, protect floors from scuffs and scratches, and — perhaps most important — provide a soft surface to walk on or for children or babies to hang out on.

Aldi sells a variety of smaller rugs and mats almost monthly, with most of them intended to be used in front of the kitchen sink, in an entryway, or outside a front door. A couple of years ago, Aldi sold some modest runner rugs that were a surprise hit among fans. Occasionally, Aldi sells larger area rugs that measure 4′ x 6′, 5′ x 7′, or even larger.

I have some experience with Aldi rugs. A few years ago, I bought an Aldi colorblock-style area rug that was about 4′ x 6′ and lasted for several years.

In the spring of 2022, Aldi sold one of the larger area rugs we’ve seen its stores ever stock.

What We Know:

Huntington Home 6 foot 6 inch x 9 foot Shag Area Rug

Huntington Home 6’6″ x 9′ Shag Rugs (Product Code: 702920) cost $89.99 each in March of 2022. That’s within the range of similarly sized shag rugs on the market. You can find rugs this size for less, but you can also find them for much more. The Aldi rugs are available in several different neutral colors and patterns.

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials after they sell out at your local store.

This shag rug is not only one of the largest ones I’ve seen Aldi sell. It’s also one of the most expensive rugs I’ve seen at the discount grocer. Aldi has sold large shag rugs in previous years, including a 5′ x 8′ shag rug for $39.99 in 2020 and another 5′ x 7′ shag area rug for $49.99 in 2019. Aldi sometimes sells other area rugs that aren’t shag rugs, including a 5′ x 7′ plush berber rug for $19.99 in 2021.

Here’s more information about the rugs, according to Aldi:

  • Choose from 4 elegant designs
  • Carved detailing for 3D effect
  • Plush pile and durable
  • OEKO-TEX certified

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t yet purchased the Huntington Home 6’6″ x 9′ Shag Rug, so we don’t know how well it works, how durable it is, or how easy it is to clean. We write open threads so our readers can share about their experiences with a product.
