Appetitos Everything Franks in a Blanket
EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi most recently sold these in October of 2024 for $4.99 for 8.26 oz.
Everything bagel seasoning exploded onto the grocery scene a few years ago and remains popular to this day. It’s a seasoning blend containing all the stuff you usually see on an everything bagel: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, garlic, salt.
The first place I saw everything bagel seasoning mix was at Trader Joe’s, which is a cousin to Aldi. TJ’s also sells crackers flavored with the seasoning. Aldi later started selling its own Stonemill Everything Bagel Seasoning. It’s good for sprinkling on eggs, toast, bagels, salads, soups, or whatever you want to put it on. My family likes Aldi Everything Bagel Seasoning served in a cream cheese-based sauce on top of Everything Bagel Baked Chicken.
One of the more recent appearances in the Aldi Find freezer aisle were some tiny hot dogs wrapped in pastry and sprinkled with everything bagel seasoning.
Appetitos Everything Franks in a Blanket cost $3.99 for an 8.26-ounce package at the time of publication. The box describes these as “pork mini franks wrapped in pastry and topped with everything bagel seasoning.” They’re a product of Canada.
These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials after they sell out at your local store.
If you’re watching out for allergens, these contain wheat and egg.
One box has three 4-piece servings (12 pieces per box). With lots of fat, saturated fat, and sodium, these aren’t a healthy food, but you probably know that already. One serving has 290 calories, 12 grams of total fat (27% DV), 8 grams of saturated fat (40% DV), 35 mg of cholesterol (12% DV), 440 mg of sodium (19% DV), 16 grams of total carbohydrates (6% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 1 gram of total sugars, no added sugars, and 8 grams of protein.
These can be heated in a conventional oven or in an air fryer.
To bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the franks in a blanket flat side down one inch apart on a baking sheet. Bake on the middle rack for 17-19 minutes or until pastry is light golden brown.
To air fry, preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees. Place 12 pieces (the whole package) in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Bake for 4 minutes, turn over pieces, and bake for 3-4 minutes more.
I air fried these and they came out great. My air fryer isn’t that large, but these all fit in a single layer in the basket just fine.
The mini franks are savory and salty like I expected them to be. There isn’t a lot of pastry wrapped around each mini frank, but it’s enough, and it’s flaky and crisp outside and soft inside. The everything bagel seasoning takes these over the top in terms of flavor. These were a fun Aldi Find to try. My family didn’t dip these in anything, but the package shows them served alongside some kind of dipping sauce such as a whole grain mustard, which would work well as a dip.
The Verdict:
Appetitos Everything Franks in a Blanket consist of tiny franks wrapped in a small amount of pastry and coated in everything bagel seasoning. These are the ultimate savory snack. Great as part of an appetizer spread or as a snack or meal on their own.
I bought this and it had only 10 of em in the box !
I bought them at Aldi’s and the box had 13 !!
I bought these and only had 11 in 2 boxes!! Nope that is not what you pay for! Don’t think we’ll buy these again. No quality control I guess. 🤷♀️
Aldi is selling these again the week of October 30th, 2024, for $4.99 while supplies last.
