EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold this again in December of 2023 for $6.99, which is significantly less than the $12.99 we paid for it in February of 2022.

Exercise equipment is popular at many retailers during the first few months of the year. While interest in getting in shape tends to be highest in January, Aldi often sells exercise equipment and various gadgets to help you get fit well into February. One of the most recent exercise aids to hit Aldi stores was a tummy trimmer: a stretchy band with hand grips on one end and stirrups on the other end to help with different types of sit-up exercises.

The Crane Fitness Tummy Trimmer cost $12.99 at the time of publication. That’s slightly less than similar abdominal exercisers I found on Amazon. This was part of a mixed case that included a Stretch and Tone Bar, Thigh Toner, or the Tummy Trimmer.

This is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. (And Aldi won’t ship it to you if it’s out of stock at your local store.)

The back of the box.

Here’s more information on the Tummy Trimmer, according to Aldi:

  • Provides an effective workout to strengthen abdominal muscles
  • Tone and strengthen your abs, waist, legs, arms, core, hamstrings, glutes, lats, shoulders, triceps, back, and biceps
  • Features foam grips and anti-slip foot straps for gentle training
  • Ideal for use at home and on the go; lightweight and portable
  • Includes exercise instructions
  • Made in China

It comes with a two-year warranty serviced by Aspiria Nonfood, a German-based product supplier that also provides service for Aldi products such as the Easy Home Portable Fan, Crane Exercise Balls, and the Crane Kettle Bell Set. For support, call 1-800-407-1458 or email [email protected].

What’s in the box: the Tummy Trimmer and an instruction manual.

When you open the box, you get the Tummy Trimmer itself plus a user manual with exercise directions. (As always, the manual states, it’s good to consult your physician before beginning an exercise program.)

The Tummy Trimmer is easy to use. The manual offers illustrated directions for six different ways to exercise with the Tummy Trimmer. The directions are clearly explained, and the exercises all involve putting your feet in the footstraps and pulling on the handles while in various positions — sitting down, lying down, and standing.

The exercises themselves are easy to do even if you aren’t in great shape. While I walk or ride an indoor exercise bike almost daily, I don’t do sit-ups often, but I found them to be very easy to do with this device. I felt resistance and could feel my core muscles working, but it wasn’t strenuous work, so I’m not sure how effective a gadget like this really is at reducing belly fat. This seems like a good tool if you want to do gentle or low-impact exercises. I also found a word of caution about not straining your back while using a device like this.

The pros are that this Tummy Trimmer is inexpensive and portable. I can see it being good for using while watching television, and it’s small enough I can store it in a basket in the living room when it’s not in use.

I don’t yet know how durable or long-lasting this Tummy Trimmer is. I’ll update this post as necessary with any updates.

The Verdict:

The Crane Fitness Tummy Trimmer was sold alongside some other simple, inexpensive exercise devices including a tone bar and a thigh toner. The Tummy Trimmer consists of a flexible band with handholds at one end and footstraps at the other, and it allows you to perform modified versions of sit-ups. The exercises don’t feel extremely strenuous, so if you’re looking for a way to get some light activity into your routine, this might be one way to do that.
