Our Favorite Healthier Regular Buy Snacks at Aldi

healthy food

I’ve never been one to regularly stock my kitchen with chips, cookies, fruit snacks, white flour-based crackers, or other snacks that don’t have much nutritional value. I save those treats for special times like birthdays or holidays.

The types of everyday snacks you’ll find in my house include plenty of produce, including berries, apples, bananas, and carrot sticks. Or, I’m likely to make homemade treats using oats, ripe bananas, fruit, honey, peanut butter, and occasionally semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Here, I’ve compiled a list of some of my family’s favorite healthier snacks from Aldi, with links to our review where applicable. These may not suit everyone’s dietary needs or preferences, but my family likes these and they fit the bill when we need a little something between meals.

Dairy:

Happy Farms String Cheese. This is a classic snack food for kids, but the adults in my house like it just as much.

Happy Farms Cheese Curds. A Wisconsin favorite. Aldi sells these in three flavors: white cheddar, garlic, or cajun. They’re all good.

Happy Farms Cheese Blocks. These are available in mild cheddar, sharp cheddar, extra sharp cheddar, colby, colby jack, pepperjack, mozzarella, and Swiss. I like to cut these blocks into small slices so they’re perfect for eating with crackers or on their own.

Simply Nature Organic Whole Milk Plain Yogurt. I like just about any plain yogurt at Aldi. It’s perfect for making yogurt parfaits with fruit (either fresh or frozen and thawed), granola, and just a bit of honey.

Whole Grains:

Specially Selected Seeded Crackers. These contain just a few ingredients, including brown rice, quinoa, flax seeds, and sesame seeds. With a carbs-to-fiber ratio of 6.7:1, these have a nice crunch and are good paired with cheese. Look for our full review in the coming months.

Clancy’s White Cheddar Popcorn. Popcorn is a whole grain, so we feel better about eating this snack versus some other items in the chip aisle. Do watch out for hard kernels in this, though.

Bars:

Elevation Only Bars. I’ve stopped buying most granola bars, fiber bars, cereal bars and the like because they often have more added sugar than I want. These Elevation Only Bars are an exception. They’re a knockoff of name-brand KIND Bars. While they still contain some sugar, they have a good carbs-to-fiber ratio with lots of nuts.

Elevation Pure & Simple Apple Pie and Peanut Butter Cookie Fruit & Nut Bars. These are about as guilt-free as a “granola bar” can get. These are dupes of name-brand Lärabar fruit and nut bars. The apple pie bars contain only dried apple, almonds, dates, walnuts, water, raisins, and cinnamon. The peanut butter cookie bars contain only dates, peanuts, water, and sea salt.

Nuts:

Southern Grove Oven Roasted Lightly Salted Almonds. Almonds come with a range of health benefits, including calcium and fiber. They’re also a tasty snack. Look for our full review in the coming months.

Southern Grove Deluxe Whole Cashews with Sea Salt. We love cashews, either by themselves or with some cheese.

Southern Grove Cocktail Peanuts. We like these peanuts because they contain minimal ingredients: just peanuts, oil, and salt.

Southern Grove Mountain Trail Mix. This is classic trail mix with peanuts, raisins, almonds, and cashews. It also has some “cocoa gems” or generic M&Ms for a little sweet treat, with just 4 grams of added sugars per 1/4-cup serving.

Fruit and Veggies:

Simply Nature Freeze Dried Strawberries. These are good on their own as a snack. We also like to add them to Aldi Fit & Active Vitality Cereal with Red Berries.

Apple slices or celery sticks with Simply Nature Organic Creamy Peanut Butter. I’ve been on a natural peanut butter kick lately. If you’re willing to do some stirring, Aldi sells a pretty good organic peanut butter that contains just two ingredients: peanuts and salt.

Carrot sticks with Park Street Deli Classic Hummus. Everyone loves dip, and this one offers fiber, while the carrots give it all some crunch.

Other:

Park Street Deli Taboule Salad. Yes, this is technically a salad, but one of my kids loves to eat this as a snack. It’s loaded with fresh tomatoes, parsley, bulgur (cracked wheat), onions, and seasonings. It has a very good carbs-to-fiber ratio of 4.3:1. You’ll find this in the refrigerated deli aisle near the cheese.

Park Street Deli Chickpea Salad. Chickpeas are a good source of fiber and protein, and I’ve been serving them to my family in lieu of meat in some dishes. This chickpea salad also features edamame, cranberries, carrots, bell peppers, and seasonings. All the ingredients meld nicely to create a unique flavor. This is stocked in the refrigerated deli aisle.

Park Street Deli Black Bean Salad. Besides black beans, this includes kidney beans, green peppers, cucumbers, corn, onions, and seasonings. It’s stocked in the refrigerated deli aisle.

  1. I eat a handful of dry roasted almonds every day, they are the best type of nut to eat, so many vitamins. I first learned about almonds when reading books about Edgar Cayce, he recommended eating some every day.
