Bake House Creations Pizza Crust

Pizza is probably one the biggest sellers at Aldi, or any grocery store, for that matter. People really like pizza, especially in the evenings after a busy work week or school week. In fact, Friday and Saturday are the times when searches for pizza on our site tend to peak each week.

Aldi offers several ways to get your pizza fix. For a limited-inventory store, they stock a surprising number of different kinds of pizzas. The Aldi Find freezer case has a rotating selection of specialty pizzas such as tavern pizza, pan pizza, Hawaiian style pizza, and more. There’s a good variety behind the Regular Buy freezer doors as well, including stuffed crust pizza, French bread pizza, and classic thin crust pizza.

If you feel like making your own pizza and having more control over the ingredients, I can say from experience that the pizza crust recipe on the back of the Aldi fast rising instant yeast packet is excellent. It’s my family’s favorite pizza recipe, and I typically make it with Classico brand (not sold at Aldi) pizza sauce along with Aldi shredded mozzarella and Aldi pepperoni.

For a faster way to make your own pizza, Aldi started selling ready-to-bake bags of refrigerated or frozen pizza dough within the last year. It’s tasty, but my family doesn’t like it as much as the homemade yeast dough, and we also have trouble with the bagged dough sticking to our pizza pans.

Aldi is apparently not done experimenting with pizza dough offerings, because refrigerated pizza dough in a tube showed up this week as a limited-time special. I picked one up to try.

Bake House Creations Pizza Crust cost $2.29 for a 13.8-ounce tube at the time of publication.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone unless Aldi decides to bring it back at some point. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

Rolled out crust, before baking.

This is very easy to prepare. When you open the tube/can, the dough is rolled up and you simply unroll it onto a baking sheet. It’s shaped like a rectangle, and I used a rolling pin to spread the dough out to make a larger rectangle. It’s soft like crescent roll dough and doesn’t have a tendency to shrink back up a little as you roll it out like traditional pizza dough does. As a result, it was very easy to spread out, and it only took a minute or two. It doesn’t get much faster when it comes to putting a pizza with fresh ingredients into the oven.

I topped this with half of a jar of Classico pizza sauce (not sold at Aldi) along with shredded mozzarella, and I put pepperoni on half of the pizza. After about 13 minutes in the oven, the edges of the crust were golden and crisp, and the cheese was lightly browned.

Pizza after baking.

This was a good pizza. The crust had a very subtle sweet flavor and a somewhat different texture. It was a lot softer in the middle than other pizza crusts, but the crust was not raw or doughy. It was definitely cooked through, although it had a more spongy and airy consistency in the middle of the pizza.

This was especially noticeable when I tried to transfer the cooked pizza from my good baking sheet to an older pan so I could slice it without gouging my nice baking sheet. The pizza was so soft in the center that it was difficult to slide it onto the other pan.

While the edges of the crust were perfectly done and I wouldn’t want to overcook it, next time I might bake this for about two minutes longer to see if the middle can firm up more.

This softness didn’t make the pizza bad. Quite the contrary. It was delicious and my family all approved. This doesn’t quite feel like a traditional pizza crust, though. It’s what you might expect from a dough that comes from a can. It’s not the same as canned crescent rolls, but it reminds me a little of those.

I would buy this again. It’s fast and easy to make, and it gives you pizza that’s a step up from frozen and nearly as good as takeout.

The Verdict:

Bake House Creations Pizza Crust is sold refrigerated in a tube like crescent rolls. It’s quick to roll out onto a baking sheet, and then you add your own toppings and bake. This bakes up with a consistency that’s a little softer in the middle than most other pizzas, but it’s delicious and makes a great pizza. It’s worth trying if you like (almost) homemade pizzas or making pizzas with customized toppings.

  1. There’s no yeast in this dough, so it won’t taste or chew like real pizza dough.

  2. I’ll have to check my store and see if any of these are still available. I have also had problems using the refrigerated pizza dough from the bag; it sticks and I mean “cements” to whatever pan I’ve used! I see others have had great success with it. I’ll also give your one from scratch a try!

  3. Would this do well in an air fryer…cutting in half for individual “mini” pizzas?

  4. This pizza dough was delicious and very simple to make a healthy, veggie pizza.

I plan to return to the store today to see if they have more of it in stock as you stated it is a limited item.

    Very satisfied customer.
