Specially Selected Belgian Cocoa Dusted Truffles

For the past two years, Aldi has surveyed its customers about what Aldi products they like best. The winning products for 2020 range from take and bake pizza to brioche buns to bagel seasoning to imitation Girl Scout cookies. The winner for the winter seasonal category for 2020 was a box of chocolate truffles that I’ve been fond of for a few years now, so I was pleased to see them show up among the Aldi Fan Favorites.

Specially Selected Cocoa Dusted Truffles

Specially Selected Belgian Cocoa Dusted Truffles cost $2.99 for an 8.81-oz. box at the time of publication.

These are a Seasonal Favorite, which means they’re in Aldi stores for a couple of months, usually for the winter and Christmas holidays. In short, they are in stores for longer than an Aldi Find (Special Buy), but they are not at Aldi year round, so stock up if you just have to have these all year because once they’re gone from stores you can’t order them online.

These are a product of Belgium and are made with UTZ Certified cocoa.

Ingredients are vegetable fat (coconut and palm kernel), sugar, low fat cocoa powder (processed with alkalai), whey powder, and sunflower lecithin (emulsifier).

If you’re watching out for allergens, these contain coconut and milk. They may contain other tree nuts, wheat, and soy.

One box has six servings, with four pieces making one serving. A four-piece serving nets you 240 calories, 18 grams of total fat (23% DV), 16 grams of saturated fat (80% DV), 19 grams of total carbohydrates (6% DV), 16 grams of total sugars, 14 grams of added sugars (28% DV), and 2 grams of protein.

They should be stored in a cool, dry place.

These are a nice chocolate treat, and they’re a change from traditional boxed chocolates or candy bars. They have an outer coating of cocoa powder that gives them a slightly bitter taste initially, but after you get past the cocoa dust, the chocolate is smooth and sweet and melts in my mouth, as I expect truffles to do. They are indulgent and great for a snack, dessert, paired with wine, or as part of a special holiday spread or mixed in with a charcuterie board. I usually pick up at least one box of these every year when they reappear on Aldi shelves.

The Verdict:

Specially Selected Belgian Cocoa Dusted Truffles are smooth and sweet with a light coating of bitter cocoa powder. They were voted an Aldi Fan Favorite product in 2020, and we highly recommend them if you’re a chocolate fan.
