Specially Selected Pumpkin Spice Brioche

Come autumn, the grocery store shelves are suddenly filled with row after row of pumpkin-based and pumpkin-flavored foods. Whether you love or hate the pumpkin craze, this is the time of year we see pumpkin sandwich cookies, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin-shaped pizzas, pumpkin spice coffee, pumpkin spice whipped cream, pumpkin rolls, pumpkin spice bagels, and canned pumpkin.

Because I like looking for new pumpkin-themed goodies to try during this season, I recently picked up some pumpkin spice brioche at Aldi. Brioche is an airy, rich French type of bread made with a lot of eggs and butter. Aldi sells different types of sweet brioche along with brioche buns year round, but this pumpkin spice one is only available during the fall.

Specially Selected Pumpkin Spice Brioche cost $3.99 for a 14.11-ounce loaf at the time of publication.

This is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials after they sell out at your local store.

This brioche is imported from France and comes pre-sliced.

Ingredients include wheat flour, water, sugar, eggs, egg white, vegetable oils and fat, modified starch, pumpkin powder, yeast, and more. See the photo below for a full list of ingredients.

This bread has a distinct orange color to clue you in that it’s pumpkin flavored. It does contain pumpkin powder, and it gets its color from carotene and paprika extract. It would be nice if some of the other ingredients such as “spices” and “flavor” were more straightforward, though.

As far as how this tastes, if you were to take pumpkin pie and put it in soft bread form, this would be it. This has that classic fluffy texture I expect with brioche, with pumpkin spice-flavored stripes running through it. If you like pumpkin spice, you’ll probably like this.

The Verdict:

Specially Selected Pumpkin Spice Brioche features classic soft, airy pumpkin spice-flavored bread with rich pumpkin spice stripes. Good for fans of all things pumpkin.
